Buhari, when he was a military ruler in 1984, also visited Kaaba to observe his Umrah (lesser pilgrimage) and was warmly welcomed by the Saudis. He was accompanied by the Governors of Osun, Ogun, Borno, Zamfara and Katsina. Others include the NSA, Maj-Gen, Babagana Monguno (retd) and Amb. Lawal Kazaure. President Buhari is a Muslim from Daura in Katsina state, who has given his support to Sharia in the north. He has previously had to deny allegations that he has a radical Islamist agenda.
