Sergeant guns down captain, kills self over girlfriend
A Nigerian Army Staff Sergeant, Silas Ninyo, has shot dead one Captain T. Mani over a lady said to be his girlfriend, after he sighted her with a civilian and threatened to kill him.
According to the residents, the incident occurred at Chibok town where the late Sergeant Silas saw Esther (his girlfriend) with the civilian and the residents alerted Captain T. Mani who moved to the scene to disarm the late sergeant.

The angry sergeant warned Captain Mani not to move close to him but the captain advanced towards him and he shot the captain in his chest and then killed himself.
A witness, Musa Ali, said the soldier did not kill any civilian apart from the captain and himself.
Another witness said the lady (Esther) fled after she learnt both the captain and sergeant were dead.
Meanwhile, the Headquarters of 26 Brigade Nigerian Army has instituted a Board of Inquiry (BOI) to unravel the circumstances surrounding the incident.
A statement signed by Brigadier General Sani Kukasheka Usman of the Director Army Public Relations, however indicated that the sergeant was drunk and rejected the effort of the superior colleague to pacify him.

The vice president of Nigeria, Yemi Osinbajo, has cancelled his trip to India due to protocol errors by the Protocol Department of the Presidency and awkward situation it puts the government in, as Senate President Bukola Saraki would have to perform the functions of the president.
