Marco Asensio’s goal in the second leg of the Spanish Super Cup against Barcelona on Wednesday was wonderful, but it was not a surprise. Asensio, the 21-year-old winger from Mallorca, picked the ball up around 30 yards from the Barcelona goal. He shifted the ball almost imperceptibly onto his left foot and then, with minimal backlift, he sent a swerving, dipping shot into the top corner. Marc-Andre ter Stegen, the Barcelona goalkeeper, was well-positioned to save the strike and yet he didn’t move, just watched it scorch past him, a firework from a world slightly more fabulous than this one. If you wear spectacles, sometimes you will search madly for them in drawers and on worktops before finding them on the end of your nose. Signed from Mallorca in 2014, Asensio was always meant to be good but it’s probable Real never expected his progression to be thi...

Women Find Men Who Use Romantic Metaphors Irresistable "Your eyes are ocean waves rearranging the beach that is my heart." Use romantic metaphors like this on women, and you'll woo them in droves, concludes the authors of a recent study in the journal "Nature: Scientific Reports" entitled "Women prefer men who use metaphorical language when paying compliments in a romantic context". In a nutshell, the authors paired up pictures of guys with written romantic statements that ranged from very literal to very metaphorical, and then they asked women to rate the attractiveness of the guys. The women were told that the statements were written down by the persons pictured. The results revealed that the guys who proportedly wrote things like "Your eyes are morning dew" or "Your smile is a naughty goblin" were viewed as more attractive than the guys who supposedly wrote literal statements like "Your lips...

A 17-year-old high school student from Uruguay who taught himself computer programming was awarded $10,000 from Google for discovering a security bug. Ezequiel Pereira, of Montevido, discovered the bug last month during a break from school. “I was really bored at home, during my winter vacation," Pereira, who blogged about his discovery , told ABC News by email. "And luckily that day I had the idea to do the trial and error that led to the discover.” The security bug Pereira discovered was in Google's AppEngine server. He was able to find a point of access to part of internal Google infrastructure related to AppEngine -- the dashboard for the company’s technology support team, for example -- without being authenticated. “We had seen something similar before and we fixed it but he found a part that hadn’t fixed it correctly,” Eduardo Vela, Google's Vulnerability Rewards Program Technical Lead, told ABC News. “He was looking in the right place at the ...

India has a grim record of sexual assaults on children, with more than 10,000 raped in 2015  A 10-year-old rape victim who was denied permission for an abortion by the Indian Supreme Court last month has given birth to a baby girl. The girl is not aware that she has given birth. During her pregnancy she was told her bulge was because she had a big stone in her stomach. The baby weighing 2.2kg (4.8lb) was delivered by Caesarean section in Chandigarh at 09:22 (03:52 GMT). Both the mother and the newborn are doing fine, an official told the BBC. The girl alleges she was raped several times in the past seven months by her uncle, who has been arrested. Her pregnancy was discovered in mid-July when she complained of stomach ache and her parents took her to hospital. A local court in Chandigarh turned down the abortion plea on the grounds that she was too far into her pregnancy after a doctors' panel said that termination of the pregnancy would be "too risky".
